The Reserve Bank of India has recalled the Pie, once the smallest unit of currency in India, in a post about the country’s monetary past.
The denomination was used in everyday transactions under India’s pre-decimal monetary system. Although the Pie is no longer in circulation, the RBI’s post describes its history as an important part of India’s monetary heritage.
The reference was shared by the Reserve Bank of India on X alongside the hashtag #RBIMuseum, drawing attention to a currency unit that has disappeared from daily use but remains connected to the evolution of India’s monetary system.
