Security measures are in place as demonstrations are planned at Jantar Mantar, with calls from multiple parties and groups to protest a resignation demand. In response, authorities have activated BNSS Section 163 in the New Delhi district to curb assemblies and demonstrations and to safeguard public order. Thousands of personnel from police and central security forces are deployed, with heightened vigilance along the Delhi border with Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to prevent any untoward incidents.
Under BNSS Section 163, public gatherings without prior written permission are banned in the New Delhi district. Protests, rallies, and sit-ins involving five or more people are restricted, and shouting, or public speeches are prohibited. Carrying weapons, banners, placards, sticks, swords, bricks, or other provocative items is prohibited. The measure is typically applied in areas where tensions are high or large crowds might form.
Authorities have urged residents, visitors, and all stakeholders to comply with the order and refrain from unauthorized gatherings or restricted activities. Violations can lead to strict legal action under BNSS Section 223 and other applicable provisions of the Indian Penal Code. In addition to assembly restrictions, monitoring will extend to inflammatory speeches, s, or social media content, and loudspeakers or public announcements will require prior permission when used in public spaces.
