A vegetable seller in Rajkot has been arrested after police allegedly found a home-based operation for printing counterfeit currency. The city SOG and Crime Branch jointly raided a house in the Mandadungar area and seized fake notes, printing equipment and related materials valued at ₹65,500.

Rajkot DCP (Crime) Jagdish Bangarwa said the accused was identified as Kishan Solanki. Police alleged that Solanki had started making counterfeit currency at his residence while trying to deal with financial pressure and growing debt from low earnings as a vegetable seller.

What police recovered

The raid led to the recovery of 216 counterfeit ₹100 notes and 3 counterfeit ₹500 notes. Police also seized a CPU, monitor, 2 printers, a laminator heater machine, butter paper and sheets printed with ₹100-note designs.

During preliminary questioning, Solanki allegedly told investigators that he came across an Instagram reel about producing fake ₹100 and ₹500 currency. He then contacted the account holder and learned the process through Telegram.

Police said the trainer received ₹10,000 in counterfeit notes and paid Solanki ₹3,000 in return, according to the initial inquiry. Investigators are now looking for the person who allegedly provided the training.

How the notes were circulated

Police said Solanki did not sell the counterfeit notes in bulk. Instead, he allegedly used them himself in retail transactions. Investigators said about 40 fake ₹100 notes had been circulated at different places over the past 4-5 months.

The recent Janmashtami fair was among the places where police said the notes were used for small purchases. Investigators said ₹100 notes were allegedly passed through small transactions because small traders generally do not examine them closely.

Police remand granted

A court has granted 3 days of police remand for further investigation. Police will examine how many notes Solanki allegedly produced and identify others who may have been involved in the network.

Conclusion

The case centres on an alleged home-based counterfeit currency operation in Rajkot, with police now investigating both the circulation of the notes and the person who allegedly trained Solanki.
