India to adopt IST as common time reference under 2026 rules
The Legal Metrology (Indian Standard Time) Rules, 2026, will make Indian Standard Time the common time reference across India after 180 days. The change is intended to support accurate time-stamping for banking, digital payments, transport, government and legal records, telecom, power systems and emergency services.
