Glacier collapse, not an earthquake, likely triggered devastating Nepal-Tibet floods
Scientists say a glacier collapse near Langtang Lirung may have sent ice, rock and debris into a tributary of the Bhotekoshi River, producing a sudden flood. The event was initially linked to an earthquake-triggered landslide, but US Geological Survey analysis identified the breaking of part of a glacier as the disaster’s cause.
