Delhi made influenza a notifiable disease after 7,044 deaths in 1918 outbreak
An ailing European who arrived in Delhi from Shimla was among the first recorded influenza cases as the disease spread through the city in 1918. A Delhi Archives document dated 17 September 1920 shows officials later placed ordinary influenza under the city’s infectious-disease control powers.
